Suit or Dress? Sparkly or Streamlined? 2 Stylists Weigh in On the Ultimate Holiday Party Look

With holiday party season kicking into high gear—Christmas is just a little over three weeks away—the need for the right outfit for many different occasions has never been more important. However, where to begin? Thankfully, stylists and friends of VB, Angela Radcliffe and Caroline Sciamma-Massenet, break it down and provide their pro tips on making a dazzling entrance and exit for festive fetes.

“I adore men’s tailoring with sexy, high ankle boots or stilettos,” says Radcliffe of her go to party look. A styling trick Radcliffe employs to create an elongating effect and accentuate a slim leg is to, “tuck the hem of my trousers into the strap of the candle or boot.” The finishing touch? “Roll up the blazer sleeve and add a cool belt, silk or rock t-shirt or shirt loosely undone with a lace camisole underneath.” For Sciamma-Massenet it’s also about a slick suit. “I love to wear either a tailored suit with a camisole underneath [or] a jumpsuit with a bit of cleavage and a brooch.” However, she does concede there are moments when her girly side comes out in, ”dresses that define my waist with touches of metallic.”

But like Coco Chanel’s oft-quoted saying, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off,” where to start with accessories? Tis the season for an OTT, more-is-more approach or  “I like to accessorise with dramatic eye makeup, a nude lip, chic small evening bags in contrasting fabrics, [and] chunky gold chains and fun rings,” says Radcliffe. “Accessories are half way the success of a great look,” says Sciamma Massenet. “I love big gold earrings and a sparkly pump.”

As for the finishing touches, both advise simple punctuations can elevate any look. Their top tips? Sheer, patterned tights, thin scarves, belts, but leave it to Radcliffe to have the ultimate accessory for the season. “Sexy, evening ankle boots and a glass of champagne.”
